Schoolmaster by profession since 1946.

From 1953 to 1983 organised and ran Centres for Outdoor Training and Education..  1957 to 1976 was Director of Plas y Brenin, National Mountain Centre in Snowdonia.  1977 to 1983 developed the National Outdoor Centre for Wales Plas Menai and was the first Principal.

Author of ‘More Than Mountains’   published by Harraps.

Editor of ‘Safety on Mountains’

Co-author of ‘Climbing and Trekking Guide – Kashmir’. 1945

Revised and re-edited the Guide in 1976

Member of The Alpine Club

Honorary Life Member – The Himalayan Club

Honorary Life Member – Fell and Rock Club of the English Lake District

Also Honorary Life Member of

                    The Mountaineering Club of North Wales

                    The Mynydd Climbng Club  and

                    The Chester Mountaineering  Club

Long Standing Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society

Lectured in Britain, Europe,  U.S.A., Middle East, India and Canada

1940 to 1946.   Royal Air Force on Flying Duties.

Two tours of Operational Flying in Burma Campaign.

Following the operational flying was seconded to R.A.F. Mountain Centre in Kashmir. – Chief Instructor -  training Aircrews, Paratroops and Glider troops

Was Wireless Operator/Air Gunner – Sgt. to Flying Officer

1981  Leader of the Gorphwysfa Expedition to S.E. Garhwal – Nanda Devi/Trisul    

           area.  Expedition made ascent of Bethartoli Himal South c. 21,000 ft.

  1. Leader of Canadian Kashmir Himalaya Expedition.  Climbed Kolahoi and  

researched Mini-Ice-Age in the area.

  1. Ascent of Mount Kilimanjero, East Africa and ascent of Point Lenana on

Mount Kenya

  1. Organiser – Markha Valley Trek/Ascent of Stok Kangri 20,100 ft, Ladakh

Leader of treks throughout the Himalaya, Peruvian Andes and of journeys in Ecuador, Bolivia, South India, Burma, Thailand, Morocco, Jordan, Ethiopia and Madasgascar
